Practice Safety Measures.

When there are lot of muders taking place in our town, we often blame our police or government for lack of safety. But the problem is with us. Cops won't take action so soon, they will take time, and within that time murders can take place. But what we have to do is to practice temporary precautions. Being "safe" is not the word, but if we spend some time on this matter and practice temporary precautions, we can prevent murders. There are a lot of suicides taking place. These can be murders too. So if we won't to stop this, think about this matter for some time, take safety measures not only for ourselves, but to the community too.
Please do take this in mind.

On 12/12/12, here are 12 notable twelves

For those attaching special significance to numbers, Dec. 12, 2012 is an auspicious day. While there is no generally accepted term for dates in which the day, month and year all match – perhaps because they are so rare – it’s important to note that after a dozen in a row, the next one won’t come until Jan. 1, 2101.
Here are 12 facts to celebrate the century’s last sequential date:
  • Couples from Hong Kong and Singapore are flocking to tie the knot as 12/12/12 is seen by some to guarantee a happy marriage. Agence France-Presse reports that in Hong Kong, four times as many couples are heading to the altar on Dec. 12, compared with last year. In Singapore, the number of marriages will multiply eight-fold.
  • A Brampton, Ont., couple are set to wed at a sunset ceremony in Aruba on Dec. 12, 2012, according to The Canadian Press. Krisztina Sebesi, 34, and Rex Lu, 26, will celebrate with a 12-course meal and a cake featuring 12 starfish.
  • Dec. 12 will be a momentous birthday for Kiam Moriya of Alabama, who was born on that date in New York in 2000, at 12:12 p.m., according to AL.com. He’ll be celebrating with Krispy Kreme donuts in the shape of the number 12.
  • A southwestern Michigan casino is also betting that 12-12-12 is going to be a lucky day for opening its new hotel. A ribbon-cutting is planned for 12:12 p.m. Wednesday for the 242-room hotel at FireKeepers Casino near Battle Creek.
  • While choosing special dates for cesarean sections is common, The Hindu newspaper reports 12/12/12 is not popular in India as it falls the day before Amavasya or a new moon, a day usually avoided for planned births.
  • One of the largest events in music history will be held on Dec. 12, 2012. The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, The Who and Paul McCartney will perform at the Hurricane Sandy relief concert at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Organizers expect two billion people will watch through TV, radio and online streaming.
  • According to Chinese numerology, one is a yang number ruled by the sun and represents independence and individualism. Two is a yin number ruled by the moon and represents symmetry and balance. Combined, the number 12 brings harmony to the yin and the yang.
  • Mathematicians love 12 for its inherent divisibility. It is one of the few smaller numbers that can be evenly divided into multiple subsets: halves, thirds, fourths, sixths and twelfths.
  • Because 12 can be so easily divided, it’s commonly used in measurements. There are 12 inches in a foot, 12 ounces in a troy pound (used to measure gold, silver and gems), and 12 in a dozen.
  • The number 12 has found its way into religion (12 apostles), mythology (12 Olympian gods) and astrology (12 signs of the zodiac).
  • Twelve often represents the end of one cycle and the beginning of another. December is the 12th month of the year; every 12 hours day turns to night or night to day.
  • There are also 12 pairs of ribs in most humans, 12 face cards in a deck, and 12 people have walked on the moon.

Chinese Officials Punished for Deadly Demolition

Chinese state media say 17 officials and workers have been punished after two people died during the forced demolition of a building.
The official Xinhua News Agency says a cement board fell from the illegally constructed building as It was being demolished Friday in Renhuai city in southwest China's Guizhou province, killing two workers and injuring three others.
Xinhua said Saturday that local residents carried the bodies to the city government building, causing a disturbance.
It said three officials were criminally detained for dereliction of duty, five others were suspended, and nine workers involved in the demolition were detained.
Forced demolition is common in China, as local governments try to remake their cities. But it is rare for officials or demolition workers to be punished.

Labor board: Education chief Gist violated labor law over Central Falls rally

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The state Labor Relations Board has found that state Education Commissioner Deborah Gist and other higher-ups in the department violated labor law in what it says was an attempt to keep employees from attending a union rally in 2010.
The finding, released Thursday, concerned an after-hours rally in support of teachers at Central Falls High School fired by School Supt. Francis Gallo early in 2010.
Though most of the 74 teachers regained their jobs, the question over whether Gist unlawfully tried to keep members of the department's Professional Employees Union from attending the rally has been simmering ever since.
At the heart of the dispute is an e-mail from Gist, warning she would not "hesitate to take action against any employee of RIDE who purposefully works to thwart RIDE policy."

The board said from its tone, it "clearly" amounted to a "gag" order.

Palestinian President Returns Triumphantly From UN

The Palestinian president returned triumphantly to the West Bank on Sunday, receiving a boisterous welcome from thousands of cheering supporters at a rally celebrating his people's new acceptance to the United Nations.
An Israeli decision to cut off a cash transfer to the financially troubled Palestinian Authority, following an earlier decision to build thousands of new homes in Jewish settlements, failed to put a damper on the celebrations.
But Palestinian officials acknowledged they were undecided on what to do with their newfound status, and were waiting for upcoming Israeli elections and new ideas from President Barack Obama before deciding how to proceed.

Outside the headquarters of President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank city of Ramallah, some 5,000 people thronged a square, hoisted Palestinian flags and cheered their leader's return from New York. Large posters of the Palestinian leader, whose popularity had plummeted in recent months, adorned nearby buildings.
"We now have a state," Abbas said to wild applause. "The world has said loudly, 'Yes to the state of Palestine.'"
The United Nations General Assembly last week overwhelmingly endorsed an independent Palestinian state in the West Bank, east Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip, territories Israel captured in the 1967 war.
The move to upgrade the Palestinians to a nonmember observer state does not change much on the ground, but it carries deep potential significance.
The vote amounted to an international endorsement of the Palestinian position on future border arrangements with Israel and an overwhelming condemnation of Israeli settlements in the areas claimed by the Palestinians.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejects a return to Israel's 1967 lines. Israel remains in control in parts of the West Bank and considers east Jerusalem, the Palestinians' hoped-for capital, an integral part of its capital.
Israel also continues to restrict access to Gaza. Israel withdrew seven years ago from the coastal strip, and it is now ruled by Hamas Islamic militants who regularly fire rockets at Israel.
Israel, backed by the U.S., campaigned strongly against the statehood measure, accusing the Palestinians of trying to bypass direct peace negotiations, which it said were the only viable path to a Palestinian state.
The Israeli lobbying efforts failed miserably. Just eight other countries voted with Israel, and even its closest allies in Europe, including Germany, Italy, France and Britain, either abstained or voted with the Palestinians.
Israel responded strongly and swiftly. The following day, it said it would start drawing up plans to build thousands of settlement homes, including the first-ever development on a crucial corridor east of Jerusalem.
Although the project is likely years away, if it happens at all, the announcement struck a defiant tone.
Building in the area, known as E1, would sever the link between the West Bank and east Jerusalem, the sector of the holy city the Palestinians claim for a future capital, and cut off the northern part of the West Bank form its southern flank. The Palestinians claim such a scenario would essentially kill any hope for the creation of a viable state.

Ricky Ponting to quit Test cricket after Perth Test against South Africa

Ricky Ponting, who turns 38 next month, announced his retirement from Test cricket with this week's Perth Test against South Africa to be his last.

Perth:  Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting on Thursday called time on his 17-year Test career, announcing this week's clash against South Africa in Perth will be his last.

"This Test will be my last," he said at a hastily-called press conference, adding that he will continue to play for Tasmania in the domestic competition this summer.

Ponting, who turns 38 next month, has failed in three innings against the Proteas during draws in Brisbane and Adelaide and pressure has been building on the veteran ahead of Friday's series decider in Perth.

Perth will be a fitting conclusion to a remarkable career.

It is where he debuted against Sri Lanka in 1995 and by playing Friday he will equal Steve Waugh's mark of 168 Test matches -- the most in the history of Australian cricket.

After being made Australian captain in 2004, the right-hander went onto become one of the country's greatest cricketers.

The Tasmanian, who has 13,366 Test runs to his name, including 41 centuries with only Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar scoring more, said he knew it was time to call it a day.

"Over the last couple of weeks my level of performance hasn't been good enough," said Ponting, who had already been dumped from the one-day and Twenty20 international squads.

"My passion and love for the game hasn't changed but at the end of the day (the decision) was based on my results.

"In this series so far they have not been up to the level required of batsmen and players in the Australian team.

"I'm glad I have got the opportunity to finish on my terms."

An emotional Michael Clarke, the current captain, said Ponting would be sorely missed and his announcement took him by surprise.

"I didn't have a feeling it was coming," he said of his friend and mentor.

"Ricky spoke to me after Adelaide and obviously made his decision over the last few days.

"The boys (team) are obviously hurting right now. He's been an amazing player for a long time."

He added that the announcement would only fire up the side to win the third Test, where the number one ranking in Test cricket will be on the line.

"It will only give us more inspiration," said Clarke as he fought back tears.

In a statement, Cricket Australia chief James Sutherland described Ponting as one of the best players to ever to pad up for his country.

"Ricky has had an extraordinary career and has made an extraordinary contribution, including through the example he has set for other elite players and through the excitement he has given fans, young and old," he said.

"I think his record until he retired as captain was outstanding but my respect for him since then has actually increased, seeing first-hand how he stepped back to become a total team player."

Study Finds Most Pork Contaminated With Yersinia Bacteria

A sample of raw pork products from supermarkets around the United States found that yersinia enterocolitica, a lesser-known food-borne pathogen, was present in 69 percent of the products tested, according to a study released today by Consumer Reports.
The  bacteria  infects more than 100,000 Americans a year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but  for every case that is confirmed with a laboratory test, about 120 more cases escape diagnosis. Symptoms can include fever, cramps and bloody diarrhea.

For its sample, Consumer Reports included the same pork products millions of Americans buy every day at their supermarkets. The study included 148 pork chops and 50 ground pork samples from around the United States.
In the samples tested, 69 percent tested positive for yersinia and 11 percent for enterococcus, which can indicate fecal contamination that can lead to urinary-tract infections. Salmonella and listeria, the more well-known bacterium, registered at 4 percent and 3 percent, respectively.
“The results were concerning,”  Urvashi Rangan, one of the authors of the report, told ABCNews.com. “It’s hard to say that there was no problem.  It shows that there needs to be better hygiene at animal plants. Yersinia wasn’t even being monitored for.”
In a written statement, the Pork Producer’s Council questioned the methods used by Consumer Reports, saying the number of samples tested, 198, did  ”not provide a nationally informative estimate of the true prevalence of the cited bacteria on meat.”
Despite the findings, Rangan said  it’s good to know that the bacteria can be killed by cooking the pork properly and by being vigilant about cross-contamination.
Pork cuts should be cooked to 145 degrees, while ground pork needs to reach a temperature of 160 degrees to kill the bacteria.
“Anything that touches raw meat should go into the dishwasher before touching anything else,” Rangan said. ”Juices from raw meat that touch the counter should be washed with hot soapy water.”
The U.S. Department of Agriculture  said the findings “affirm that companies are meeting the established guidelines for protecting the public’s health.
“USDA will remain vigilant against emerging and evolving threats to the safety of America’s supply of meat, poultry and processed egg products, and we will continue to work with the industry to ensure companies are following food safety procedures in addition to looking for new ways to strengthen the protection of public health,” the department said in a statement.

Co. Paying Just $1,200 for Each Factory Fire Life

A company that makes clothes for Sean Combs' clothing brand ENYCE and other U.S. labels reassured investors that a factory fire that killed 112 people over the weekend would not harm its balance sheet, and also pledged to pay the families of the dead $1,200 per victim.

In an announcement Monday, Li & Fung Ltd., a middleman company that supplies clothes from Bangladesh factories to U.S. brands, said "it wishes to clarify" that the deadly Saturday night blaze at the high-rise Tazreen Fashions factory outside Dhaka "will not have any material impact on the financial performance" of the firm.
The fire broke out on the ground floor of the nine-floor building as hundreds of workers were upstairs on a late-night shift producing fleece jackets and trousers for the holiday rush at American stores, including Wal-Mart, according to labor rights groups. Fire officials said the only way out was down open staircases that fed right into the flames. Some workers died as they jumped from higher floors.

CLINTON ARRIVES IN ISRAEL AS ROCKET ATTACKS CONTINUE

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton says the United States is pushing for a `'durable outcome" promoting stability following Israel's offensive in the Gaza Strip.

Clinton spoke alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Tuesday after she rushed to the region to help forge a cease-fire after a week of fighting between Israel and Gaza militants.

She said "the goal must be a durable outcome that promotes regional stability and advances the security and legitimate aspirations of Israelis and Palestinians alike."

Netanyahu said Israel would welcome a diplomatic solution to the crisis, but threatened further military activity, saying he is ready to take "whatever action" is necessary.

UN Security Council falls silent on Israel raids on Gaza City

United Nations: The UN Security Council is silent on Israel's offensive in the Gaza Strip. A draft press statement circulated to the 15 members' capitals overnight seems to have failed to win the unanimous approval that would have led to its adoption.

UNSC silent on Israel raids on Gaza

The Security Council has no meetings set, a sign that the draft statement on the escalating violence in Gaza between Israel and Hamas is dead.

Russian Ambassador Vitaly Churkin said that the United States was "filibustering" the council.

US Ambassador Susan Rice said that the US and Egyptian governments were trying to broker a cease-fire.

Rice said, "We think it's vitally important that this council, by its action, or non-action, is reinforcing the prospects for an agreed cessation" of hostilities.

Children living near Gaza strip showing psychological toll

ASHKELON, Israel - Iron Dome, Israel's projectile defense system, did not protect a school and a house today a coastal city in southern Israel.
For the people who live there, every day life includes having 45 seconds to make it to a safe area if they hear a siren. The sirens are activated by the Iron Dome defense system.

Two schools in Ashkelon suffered direct hits today. No one was hurt because no children living within a 25-mile radius of Gaza go to class these days.
The Hamas rockets are unguided. Where they land is random. So, in the same way that American kids have fire drills, schools here have rocket drills.

Obama Extends 'Hand of Friendship' to Myanmar in Historic Visit

Becoming the first sitting U.S. president to visit this long-isolated nation, President Obama today extended "the hand of friendship" as the country emerges from five decades of harsh authoritarian rule, but cautioned that the young democracy has "much further to go."

U.S. President Barack Obama, right, waves as he embraces Myanmar democracy activist Aung San Suu Kyi after addressing members of the media at Suu Kyi's residence in Yangon, Myanmar, Monday, Nov. 19, 2012.

This journey to Myanmar is a first, but also a poignant last for Clinton. In Yangon, she came down the air-stairs alongside President Obama for what the White House calls her final trip with him as Secretary of State, her final official ride on Air force One as the architect of his foreign policy. Clinton has said she will not remain for a second term.
